Ronald J. Johnston, 60, of East Peoria passed away at 7:50 pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his residence.



Ronald was born May 3, 1954 in Peoria, the son of Frank and Georgene Donlevy Johnston. He married Peggy Debis on August 18, 1979.



He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years; his children, Haley (Mathew) Carrington of Washington, Noel Johnston of Peoria Heights, and Thomas Johnston of Lakewood CO; two grandchildren; his siblings, Donald Johnston of WI, Judy (Richard) Zimmerman of Peoria, David (Caryl) Johnston of Washington, Randy (Suzan) Johnston of Peoria,...

Ronald J. Johnston, 60, of East Peoria passed away at 7:50 pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his residence.



Ronald was born May 3, 1954 in Peoria, the son of Frank and Georgene Donlevy Johnston. He married Peggy Debis on August 18, 1979.



He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years; his children, Haley (Mathew) Carrington of Washington, Noel Johnston of Peoria Heights, and Thomas Johnston of Lakewood CO; two grandchildren; his siblings, Donald Johnston of WI, Judy (Richard) Zimmerman of Peoria, David (Caryl) Johnston of Washington, Randy (Suzan) Johnston of Peoria, and Danny (Paula Rushing) Johnston of Peoria; and his mother-in-law, Elaine Debis of Peoria.



Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Frank Allen Johnston.



He attended Peoria High School. He enlisted in the US Army from 1971 to 1974 serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He also served with the Air National Guard from 1984 to 1987.



Ron graduated from Illinois Central College in 1988. He graduated from Bradley University in 1991. He received his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois in 1994.



He worked at The Children’s Home and Deer Creek-Mackinaw School District before retiring.



Cremation rites will be accorded.



A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm, Monday, April 6, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Craig Stanford will officiate.



In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his church, Immanuel Lutheran Church.
